Lenovo Ideapad vs. Apple iPad

July 11th, 2010
  • Multifunctional
    • Lenovo
The ideapad works like a normal laptop so you can have multiple applications running at the same time. It is highly practical in this regard.
    • iPad
This is a decent flaw in the iPad. You can’t have multiple applications running at once. So you can’t flip between things and you can’t copy and paste between multiple items. This is an annoying factor, I’m sure the next model will improve this.
    • Looks
      • Lenovo
The netbook is quite a styli tablet but not nearly as styli as the iPad. But that comes down to the fact that the netbook is also a laptop so you can’t expect it to be as beautiful as an apple. For a highly practical laptop it has quite good style.
      • iPad
The iPad is all style as are most apple products. It is gorgeous and the picture quality is amazing.
      • Touch Screen
      • Lenovo
The touch screen is cool but it does have a bit of lag time. Although this can be improved by the upgrades mentioned in the last post it is still an annoying factor that you have to upgrade it to get it to work well. But once you have upgraded it runs great.
      • iPad
The iPad touch screen is awesome. I have tried it and it is fast and clear and beautiful. It is hard to beat apples’ touch screens.
      • Usability and Practicality
      • Lenovo
This is where the Lenovo really stands out as it is a multipurpose laptop/touch pad. You can use it as a tablet but you can also use it as your laptop. This makes it less of a gadget and more practical for everyday use. You can do your work on it, read on it, and do presentations on it and much, much more. This is why I really like the ideapad.
      • iPad
The iPad is very easy to use and it is practical in certain senses. But as cool as it is, it seems more like a gadget unless you work in an industry where you are doing presentations or using it to show your photography, graphic design and so on. So for some things it is highly practical but otherwise to me it’s a doodad – albeit a Very Cool doodad!
      • Eco-friendly
      • Lenovo
It has low energy use as it is energy efficient.  It is RoHS compliant.
      • iPad
Can be recycled, no arsenic in display, free of BFR and PVC free

      Upgrades for the Lenovo IdeaPad

      June 28th, 2010
Although the Lenovo IdeaPad is great and I love it there are some upgrades that I couldn’t do without. If you can’t be bothered doing any of these upgrades, you may find it isn’t the right computer for you. But if you take the time and do these you will find you enjoy your Netbook so much more J
      • Upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium
Although the Windows 7 starter edition works okay, it doesn’t do the touch screen justice. Simply because the basic edition of windows that it comes with doesn’t include the multi-touch features. This is a shame but it is simple to get the better versions of Windows 7, it just means a few extra dollars. So before you buy a Lenovo Multitouch Netbook make sure you add in the extra dollars for the upgrade in your budget. It’s not very expensive but it’s definitely worth it. Once you have upgraded you’ll find the touch screen is incredibly responsive and great to use.
      • Upgrade the Hard Drive
The hard drive in this netbook is rather small. It depends how much you will be using it and how important speed is to you! If you’re anything like me, you will want it to go faster. You can easily update the hard drive from 5400rpm to a 7200rpm. This will make a considerable difference and won’t try your patience.
      • Upgrade to 2 Gig of Ram
I highly recommend upgrading the GB to 2. You will notice a big difference when you run the different applications. Another easy to do upgrade that will make a huge improvement to the Lenovo IdeaPad.
      • Activate ReadyBoost
Adding an 8 gig or 16gig SCHC card will boost the speed on many applications hugely. It’s definitely well worth the effort.
      • Energy Management
You can change the Energy Management on the Lenovo Idea Pad. Change the settings to faster CPU performance and you will notice the difference. Click Here to Read More About the Netbook
      • Browser
The best browser to use on this machine seems to be Firefox. I think Firefox is best anyway but it does seem to work best on the Lenovo.

      Lenovo MultiTouch Netbook Review

      June 23rd, 2010

This detailed review of the Lenovo Multitouch Netbook will help you discover the practicality, useability and quality of the IdeaPad. Hope you find it an enjoyable read.

      POSITIVES

      EXTREMELY SLIM SLEEK DESIGN

The Netbook has been designed to be extremely thin which is very handy when traveling or using it on the run. It is less than an inch in thickness. Lenovo have finally made their notebooks styli – it may not be as sexy as an apple but it’s pretty darn cool!

      TOUCH SCREEN

The touch screen on the idea pad is awesome. It is very functional and responds very well to even a very light touch. This is a great alternative to the iPad as it has similar functionalities but at a lower cost. The screen size is 10.1 inches

      PORTABILITY

The slim design makes the Ideapad and easy tablet to carry around. It weights 5.6 pounds.

      SCREEN ROTATION

This is one of the super cool functions of the Multitouch Pad. It has a screen that can rotate 180 degrees. This makes it so versatile especially when you want to use the pad to show clients or friends something on the screen. Everyone can get a good view without having to crowd around behind your back.

      FACE RECOGNITION

Logging in to the Lenovo Multitouch Netbook is fun as you use a face recognition technology. Instead of a password the computer recognizes your face and then logs you in. This can be set up for multiple users.

      TECHNOLOGY AND SPECS

      1.66GHZ Intel Atom Processor

      1GB Memory; 1 Memory Slot

250 GB Hard Drive – Serial ATA – Speed 5400 rpm

      Graphics – Intel GMA 3150

      2 USB Ports

      Power – 10 hours charge

      Weight – 6.05 Pounds

Rescue System – Data Recovery is quick and easy

Windows 7 Starter (recommended to upgrade to Premium as per below)

      NEGATIVES

      UPGRADE NEEDED FOR TOUCH FUNCTIONALITY

The Netbook comes with windows 7 but if you want to use it as a touch pad you will need to upgrade the windows to get the full functionality. You should at least get Windows premium.

      KEYBOARD

Some people find the keyboard to be less functional than desired. But it’s not really that bad and most laptops keyboards are more annoying than a desktop keyboard. If it really bugs you there is always the option of getting a wireless keyboard to use.
